What to Do when an Allergic Reaction Occurs

What to Do when an Allergic Reaction Occurs

If you think someone is experiencing an allergic reaction:

  • Call an ambulance
  • Use an EpiPen (check if the patient has one)
  • Get the patient to lie still on their back
  • Loosen tight clothing and cover the patient with a blanket
  • Give CPR if there are no signs of breathing, coughing or movement

Do not give the patient anything to drink. If there is vomiting or bleeding from the mouth, turn the patient on their side to prevent choking.

Even if symptoms improve, they may recur, so go to the Accident & Emergency Department immediately.
