Tomotherapy is a revolutionary radiation technology that uses intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to treat different tumours. It allows doctors to directly target the radiation beams on the diseased tissues, while sparing the surrounding healthy tissues from radiation damage. Tomotherapy uses an inbuilt CT scanner to determine the size, shape and location of the tumour before the treatment is done. The tomotherapy unit delivers customised and precise radiation beams to the diseased areas, slice by slice, thereby irradiating the whole tumour area.
