Capsule endoscopy or small intestine endoscopy is a diagnostic tool that comprises of a wireless camera inside a pill. It is a painless and noninvasive tool that provides images of the small intestine. The patient swallows the capsule, which then travels along the oesophagus, stomach and to the small intestine. Tens of thousands of images are recorded on a hard disk that the patient wears as a belt.
The pill is excreted with faeces. The images are then examined by the doctor to determine abnormalities in the small intestine.
