Dr Liew Boon Wah is a cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in the evaluation and management of coronary artery disease using invasive and non-invasive techniques.
He is experienced in performing coronary artery intervention procedures for the treatment and assessment of complex coronary artery diseases, and is skilled in the interpretation of intravascular imaging techniques. His special interest is in the management of acute coronary artery disease as well as in primary and secondary prevention of ischaemic heart disease.
He was the former chief of the department of cardiology at Changi General Hospital (CGH).
Dr Liew graduated from the National University of Singapore. He went on to do his general cardiology training in Singapore under the advanced specialty training and obtained his specialist qualification as a cardiologist. After his fellowship training in interventional cardiology at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan, he returned as a consultant cardiologist at CGH. He is a fellow with the Academy of Medicine, the American College of Cardiology and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
During his time at CGH, he was the director of the acute myocardial infarction (AMI) programme where he oversaw the planning, execution and coordination of a multi-disciplinary care for AMI patients. He was also appointed the director of the cardiac rehabilitation programme where he oversaw the revamp of the programme resulting in significantly higher participation rates for post-AMI patients. As the head of the department at CGH, he oversaw the expansion of services such as the post-AMI clinic and a dedicated atrial fibrillation clinic.
Dr Liew was the clinical lead of the Ministry of Health (MOH) value care programme for AMI. He was also a member of the MOH residency advisory committee, which oversees and ensures the high standards of the cardiology specialist training in Singapore. He was also involved as a member of the board of clinical privileging and credentialing at CGH.
Besides his clinical work, Dr Liew was an adjunct assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, DUKE-NUS Medical School and adjunct clinical tutor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He was also the associate programme director of the SingHealth senior residency (cardiology) and a core faculty.
