Dr Mark received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1994. He completed his Membership examinations in Surgery and was admitted as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. In 2002, he obtained his Masters of Medicine degree from NUS in Otolaryngology and completed his Fellowship examinations in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow.
Dr Mark further completed a fellowship in Sleep Surgery at Stanford University, USA, with leading pioneers of sleep surgery, Professor Richard Goode, A/Professor Nelson Powell and A/Professor Robert Riley in 2006. He passed the American Board examinations in Sleep Medicine, and was certified a Sleep Specialist by the American Board of Sleep Medicine in 2006. This makes him one of only a few ENT surgeons worldwide with this qualification.
Dr Mark is actively involved in clinical and basic research and is currently the Principal and Co-investigator of several research projects. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journals, presented at numerous local and international conferences and is a reviewer of the Singapore Medical Journal and Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
As a Clinical Tutor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in National University of Singapore, Dr Mark is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He was responsible for the Sleep Module in the National ENT Training Programme for ENT trainee surgeons in 2007.
He is also involved in teaching programmes in the region and has been involved in teaching ENT specialists from Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam about sleep disorders.
He was also the Director of the Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Surgery Course held in November 2008 in Singapore General Hospital as part of the Singapore Sleep Symposium 2008. This was an international instructional course and the first comprehensive sleep symposium in Singapore that encompasses all aspects of the diagnosis, medical therapy and surgical treatment of all sleep disorders.
Dr Mark is also a member of various professional organisations. These include the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Singapore Sleep Society and Singapore Medical Association. He is also a committee member in the Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Singapore. Dr Mark is currently practising at Parkway East Hospital and his specialty interests include the treatment of Snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, Sleep Disorders, Nasal obstruction, Thyroid lumps and Cancers of the Head and Neck region.
