Dr Darren Phua is an anaesthesiologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in chronic and interventional pain medicine. He is also trained in minimally invasive interventional pain procedures. His clinical expertise includes the administration of targeted, minimally invasive nerve blocks, radio-frequency therapy, neurolytic blocks and implant management. These procedures may reduce pain and dependence on pain medications while avoiding the risks and costs involved with major surgery.
Dr Phua is a visiting consultant at Changi General Hospital and was a former chairman of the medical board of Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Thereafter, he completed his master’s degree. He pursued his subspecialty interest in pain medicine with a fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada and qualified as a fellow of the Interventional Pain Practice, World Institute of Pain, USA. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Medicine.
Dr Phua has a keen interest in teaching and research, having published numerous scientific publications and abstracts in local and international peer-reviewed scientific journals. He serves as a clinical senior lecturer at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and previously was a core faculty with the SingHealth anaesthesiology residency programme.
