Dr Don Pek is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical interests include anterior segment surgery, complex cataracts, refractive cataract surgery, glaucoma and general ophthalmology.
He is the deputy head of service (cataract, implant and anterior segment) and senior consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Dr Pek received his medical training from the University of Glasgow, UK and also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science Honours degree. He completed his postgraduate training and was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
While at TTSH, he established the anterior segment and cataract service and was the earliest to use micro-invasive glaucoma surgery at the hospital. Dr Pek has performed more than 600 cataract surgeries annually since 2017. He also chaired a committee to harmonise cataract listing guidelines within restructured hospitals.
He regularly volunteers at non-profit organisations to provide free cataract surgery to those with poor access to healthcare in regions such as Ladakh, Myanmar and Bangladesh. For his efforts, he was awarded the Healthcare Humanities Award in 2011.
