Dr Pinakin Vijaykumar Parekh

Dr Pinakin Vijaykumar Parekh is a cardiologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.

He subspecialises in interventional cardiology (angiogram and angioplasties) for the treatment of blockages in the heart. He is trained in techniques of imaging and physiology, and is skilled in complex subsets such as left main, calcified lesions, bifurcations and chronic total occlusions. In addition, he performs emergency angioplasties for patients with heart attacks and cardiac arrests.

Dr Pinakin also has keen interests in treating chronic cardiovascular risk factors (e.g. high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes, weight management, etc) as well as evaluating concerning symptoms (e.g. chest pains, breathlessness, palpitations, giddiness, etc).

He was a cardiologist at Woodlands Health Campus and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and remains a visiting consultant at both institutions.

Dr Pinakin graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed his cardiology residency at the National Heart Centre Singapore. He subsequently went to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, UK for his interventional cardiology as part of the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship. He obtained a graduate diploma in family medicine. He started the cardiology service at Woodlands Health Campus.

He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore; Royal College of Physicians, UK; European Society of Cardiology; American College of Cardiology; and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He continues to be a member of the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society and is an accredited physician in the General Medical Council, UK. He was also a board member of the Academy of Medicine, cardiology and the Singapore Cardiac Society, Chapter of Interventional Cardiology.

Dr Pinakin is an appointed fellow of major cardiology colleges (Singapore, ASEAN, Asia-Pacific, American and European) and is regularly invited as faculty (speaker and panelist) to international cardiology meetings.

Besides his clinical work, he is a clinical tutor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
