Dr Billy Tan is an ophthalmologist at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical interests include general ophthalmology and cataract surgery as well as vitreo-retinal surgery.
After graduating from the University of Singapore in 1981, Dr Tan went on to pursue his specialist training in ophthalmology, and subsequently subspecialty training in Diseases and Surgery of the Vitreous and Retina at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, on a Singapore Government Scholarship.
Dr Tan was formerly a consultant ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre.
He was invited back in 2001 to be the head of the Surgical Retina Service of the Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group, a position he held till 2006. He also sat on the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Elizabeth Hospital from 2005 – 2007 and was the honourary treasurer of the College of Surgeons, Singapore, from 2006 – 2008. Dr Tan was also a Council Member for the College of Surgeons in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Tan is currently a visiting consultant ophthalmologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
