Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Surgery

  • What is Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Surgery?

Parkway East, Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Surgery

Orthopaedic surgery can be a treatment option for conditions which affect the musculoskeletal system. At Parkway East Hospital, our specialists and surgical teams work together to treat musculoskeletal disorders arising from sports injuries, congenital and degenerative diseases, tumours and infections. Some of the advanced surgical procedures which we offer include decompression laminectomy, knee arthroscopy, total knee replacement and total hip replacement.

    Decompression Laminectomy

At Parkway East Hospital, we offer surgical procedures such as laminectomy to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or spinal nerve roots. This pressure is caused by spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal that puts pressure on the spinal cord, which is filled with nerves. This causes pain, numbness, or weakness in your legs, back, neck and arms.

The procedure involves surgery on your back to remove the bone and/or tissue that is causing the pressure on the spine. Laminectomy can also be used to treat spinal injuries, herniated discs (commonly known as slipped discs) and spinal tumours.

    Knee Arthroscopy

We also offer surgical procedures such as arthroscopy to repair or replace a damaged meniscus (the C-shaped discs that cushion the knee) in your knee. Meniscal repair is a minimally-invasive procedure that can be done by arthroscopic surgery (keyhole surgery).

Arthroscopy is the best way to treat many knee injuries, including meniscal tear. The small wounds from the arthroscopy are less painful than those from open surgery.

    Total Knee Replacement

Knee pain caused by arthritis can severely affect your ability to lead a full and active life. At Parkway East Hospital, we provide (total knee replacement) using metallic implants to replace the diseased (arthritic) parts of the joint. Knee replacement surgery is becoming an increasingly common way of treating this arthritis in older patients.

  • The main reason for replacing any arthritic joint with an artificial joint is to stop the bones from rubbing against each other and causing pain. Replacing the painful arthritic joint with an artificial joint gives the bones new surfaces, which move smoothly without causing pain. Our goal is to help you return to your regular activities and the life you love with less pain and greater freedom of movement.
