Dr Ong Lin Yin
Paediatric Surgeon

Paediatric surgery is a specialised field focused on the surgical care of children, from newborns to adolescents. Paediatric surgeons are trained to manage conditions that may differ significantly from those seen in adults, taking into account each child’s age, development and ongoing growth.
At Parkway East Hospital, our paediatric surgery service is led by Dr Ong Lin Yin, who has more than 20 years of experience in paediatric surgery and urology. Her clinical interests include paediatric thoracic surgery, oesophageal atresia, bowel management and minimally invasive surgery.
The service provides assessment and surgical management for a broad range of conditions affecting the skin, head and neck, chest, abdomen, digestive system and urinary and reproductive systems.
Care is also available for congenital conditions identified during pregnancy, allowing families to seek specialist advice and plan for their child’s care before and after birth. Where clinically appropriate, minimally invasive techniques may be considered to support recovery and reduce the impact of surgery on the child.
Assessment and treatment are available for common skin and soft tissue concerns in children, including lumps and bumps, abscesses, cuts requiring surgical care, and pilonidal sinus or abscesses.
Our paediatric surgeon manages a range of head and neck conditions, such as tongue-tie, enlarged or persistent lymph nodes, pre-auricular and branchial sinuses, and thyroglossal cysts.
Care is provided for congenital and acquired conditions affecting the chest and lungs, including diaphragmatic hernia, congenital lung lesions, bronchogenic cysts and pneumothorax. Surgery may be performed using minimally invasive techniques where clinically appropriate.
We assess and treat a broad range of abdominal and digestive conditions, from hernias, appendicitis and swallowed foreign objects to intestinal obstruction, congenital gastrointestinal conditions, feeding difficulties and bowel disorders. Care is also available for selected liver, gallbladder, spleen and ovarian conditions.
Surgical care is available for selected childhood tumours affecting areas such as the ovaries, testes, liver, kidneys and adrenal glands, as well as vascular malformations. The service also includes the insertion and removal of devices such as port-a-caths and Hickman lines when required as part of a child’s treatment.
